Career-Readiness Cohort · Spring 2027

Screening Form

Draft form. Recruitment is not open, nothing you type here is saved or sent, and no research activity has begun.

Before you start

Filling in this form does not enroll you in the study and does not commit you to anything.

If you are offered a place, you will get the full consent form, and it will be reviewed with you before anything begins.

Worth reading first

You do not have to wait to see the consent form. You can read it before you fill in anything here.

Study information Consent form

What this form asks for
  • Whether you meet the eligibility rules, including your age, your connection to a Cal State LA Information Systems program, and whether you are preparing for or seeking an entry-level role.
  • Which days and times you could meet.
  • Your name and email.

It does not ask about your grades, your finances, or anything sensitive.

Why availability matters. The meeting schedule will be picked to work for the largest number of eligible volunteers. If more eligible people are free at that time than there are places, selection is random. That is why the form asks about times in detail.

What happens to what you write here
  • Access to your screening responses will be limited to the researcher and faculty supervisor as needed for eligibility review and scheduling. The cloud service provider will also process and store this information to operate the screening form.
  • They are stored using a managed cloud database and storage service with access controls and encryption.
  • Screening responses will be used to determine eligibility, coordinate scheduling, and communicate selection outcomes. With your permission, your contact information may also be retained to contact you about a later cohort.

If you do not enroll, your identifiable screening responses will be deleted from active storage within 90 days after recruitment for this cohort ends, except records needed to document recruitment.

If you give permission, only your name, email address, and permission to contact you will be kept for future cohort invitations. This contact list will be deleted when recruitment for the study ends, or earlier if you ask to be removed. Your eligibility and availability will be checked again for a later cohort.

Deletion from active storage may not immediately remove information from provider backups. Backup handling will follow the provider’s documented retention procedures.

What it asks of you

Seven in-person meetings of about two hours, every other week from February 8 to May 3, plus roughly one to two hours a week between meetings. There is no fee, and nothing you are required to buy. You cover your own transportation, parking, and usual internet costs.

Time and cost in full

When screening runs

Screening is expected to open in November 2026, once the required approvals and site permissions are in place, and closes on January 7, 2027.

If you are currently in a course Maria teaches or grades, please come back on or after December 24, 2026, once final grades have been submitted.

Everyone who applies by January 7 is considered together. Applying earlier does not improve your chances.

Screening is voluntary. You can stop at any point. Choosing not to screen, or not being selected, has no effect on your grades, your standing, or your access to any university service.

Eligibility

Are you eligible?

Every question in this part decides whether you can take part, so all of them need an answer.

QUESTION 1Right now, is Maria Espinoza teaching, grading, or otherwise evaluating you?

A course she teaches or grades, or a work, advising, or assessment relationship. This decides when you can screen, not whether you are eligible.

Please come back once that has ended. While she is still assessing you, screening would put you in an awkward position, so the form stops here rather than taking your details. If it is a course, come back on or after December 24, 2026, once final grades have been submitted. If it is a work or advising relationship, come back once it ends. Screening closes January 7, 2027, and applying later gives nobody an advantage over you.

QUESTION 2Are you 18 or older?

This study can only enroll people aged 18 or older. Thank you for your interest.

QUESTION 3What is your connection to Information Systems at Cal State LA?
QUESTION 4Are you preparing for or seeking an entry-level Information Systems role?

This may include any of the following:

  • I am still figuring out what Information Systems roles exist and which might suit me.
  • I know roughly what I want, but I am not applying yet.
  • I am actively applying for Information Systems roles.
  • I need an entry-level Information Systems role as soon as I can get one.
  • I am working already, but not in the role I am aiming for.

That is a requirement for this cohort. Preparing for or seeking an entry-level Information Systems role is part of the eligibility criteria, so the form stops here. If that changes, a later cohort may suit you.

QUESTION 5Can you attend seven in-person meetings at Cal State LA between February and May 2027?

Six facilitated sessions and one closing meeting, about two hours each, every other week from the week of February 8 to the week of May 3.

Attending the meetings is the core of the program, so this one is a requirement. If your situation changes, a later cohort may suit you better.

QUESTION 6Are you willing to complete the questionnaires scheduled for the cohort?

A questionnaire at the start and end of the cohort, about 30 minutes each, and follow-ups at about 1, 2, 3, 6 and 9 months, about 20 minutes each. You can skip any of them or stop at any point without losing access to optional guidance.

Willingness at the start is part of the eligibility criteria. You can still change your mind later without any penalty.

Availability

When could you meet?

Meetings run Tuesday to Friday in two-hour blocks. Check every block you could usually make, not just your favorite one. The more you check, the better the chance a schedule works for everyone.

Eligible volunteers receive the proposed schedule and confirm their availability before final selection. If more people confirm than there are places, selection is random.

QUESTION 7Which blocks could you usually attend?

For example a planned trip, or a standing commitment in part of the term.

Contact

Contact Info

This is used to arrange scheduling, tell you the outcome, and, if you are offered a place, set up the consent conversation. With your permission it may also be kept to contact you about a later cohort. It is not used for anything else.

Any address you check. It does not have to be your university one.

QUESTION 11If you are not selected for Cohort 1, may the researcher keep your name and email address to invite you to a later cohort within this study?

Your answer will not affect selection for Cohort 1 and does not guarantee a place in a later cohort. You may withdraw this permission at any time by emailing maria.espinoza@cgu.edu.
